Representatives from the State of Utah’s Lieutenant Governor’s Office released an official notice of Certification of Petition for Incorporation on August 19, 2024. The certification document formally states that the petition of incorporation filed for Ogden Valley Incorporation on July 11, 2024 met the requirements outlined by Utah State Code. The document also instructs Weber County’s legislative body to schedule and hold an incorporation election for the proposed municipality as part of the Regular General Election on November 5, 2024.
A timeline of events leading up to the August 19, 2024 Certification of Petition for Incorporation includes the following:
- January 11, 2023 – State of Utah receives petition for Feasibility Study for incorporation of Ogden Valley.
- May 11, 2023 – State certifies Feasibility Study Petition for incorporation.
- March 28, 2024 – State certifies request for Modified Feasibility Study for incorporation.
- August 19, 2024 – State certifies that the petition for incorporation meets Utah’s state requirements and is to be placed on the November 5, 2024, Regular General Election ballot.
Registered voters who live within the boundary of the proposed new incorporated municipality of Ogden Valley will be able to cast their vote on the question of incorporation, and what form of government they would like to adopt. Formal documents related to the incorporation of Ogden Valley can be found on the Utah Lieutenant Governor’s website at ltgovernor.utah.gov/incorporations/.
Other communities within the state of Utah currently going through the incorporation process are Benson (located in the far-northern part of the state near the Idaho border in Cache County), West Hills (located in Summit County), Riddermark (Iron County), and Spring Lake (in southern Utah County).
As residents of Ogden Valley continue to debate the merits of incorporation leading up to the November 5 election, a series of informational community meetings continue being held at the Ogden Valley Branch library in Huntsville. These community meetings have been discussing different aspects of the incorporation process and becoming a municipality. Traditionally held on Tuesday evenings, please note that the upcoming September lecture will be held Monday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. The topic will be “Forms of City Government Options,” covering the different organizational forms of government that the new Ogden Valley municipality can choose from. Meeting information will cover what the organization of a new Ogden Valley city could look like and how and when new local officials will be elected and staff appointed.
